Cabell County is situated in the southwestern part of West Virginia, along the Ohio River. It was created on January 2, 1809 (as part of Virginia) before the state division. Its county seat is the city of Huntington, which by far is the most prominent urban centre in the county and region. Huntington gives the county a mixed character: while much of the surrounding area is suburban or even rural, the city provides urban amenities, employment, educational institutions, healthcare, and river-commerce influences.
